First reading group of the year!

That's us the best reading group ever. Our common goal is to move up to level 28 by the end of the year. We will be reading more then last year, at least 15 minutes a day or more if it is a really exciting book.

Room 12 Home work

Dear parents and Caregivers: Home-work will kick off in week 2!

Please take the time to make yourself familiar with the online based activities. I have selected certain activities to help your children to practice learned skills and facts around what we are doing in school. (And don't worry - your children are not encouraged to play computer games by me, on the contrary.)

The activities start on an easy level and increase in difficulty. They are not supposed to be finished all at once, one or two tasks per week are sufficient if repeated ;-)

Home-work will consist of:

  • reading book (e.g. school journal), daily reading of at least 15 minutes
  • home work book with tasks completed with the help of the kiwikidsnews.co.nz website
  • online based practice with Studyladder.co.nz. Here learners can practice their maths facts and reading comprehension skills in an easy way - click on the link below.
  • Room 12 (easy login) login for website.
  • Spelling words will follow later on after I have assessed the current knowledge.
Home-work is important but playing is even more important for healthy children (playing IS learning). I belief half an hour a day of Home-work is more then sufficient to practice the learning at home.

Kind regards,

Mr. Gorlich

Talofa, Hallo and Welcome back to Room 12!

Talofa, Hallo and Welcome back to Room12!

The holidays are over and it is time to go back to school. Another exciting and busy term lays ahead of us and part of this is room 12's up and coming blog - so watch the space. Part of our new learning this term will be regular posts of what happens in room 12 throughout the weeks. We're going to share our learning with the wider community and looking forward hearing back from our readers.

Currently we working on our speeches to be prepared for the upcoming House Captain elections for the year 5 and 6 learners. Also the Life Education Caravan has arrived and we looking forward to some exciting learning with Harold. Later on this month we're going to think about Goals for this year and how we can achieve these. Last year we had a good practice, now we 're going to refine our goal setting.

Our Enduring Understanding  for term 1 is IHO (knowing) in regards to who we are and where we come from. Our learning will be looking into how we learn and where our interests are in order to improve learning.
Linked to this concept are the Values of Respect and Kindness.

Looking forward seeing you all.

Mr. Gorlich
