Bike Learnig

Today room 12 went to the hall to learn about bikes and we met a bicycle champ called Shawn. We learnt about one of the first bikes created in he 1800's, it's called a Hobby horse. You had to push your self because there were no pedals. But my personal favourite was called the Penny Farthing, made in 1871. It was so huge and it looked so fun to ride but it was also dangerous. Before you see the pictures answer this question "What was the purpose of the bikes"? Say what you think in the comments below.By Mark

The History of the bicycle

Today Room 12 seen some old bikes, one of them was 200 years old. There was a man named Shane who has been collecting all these bikes. He told us about the bikes and most days he rides them. Check out some these pics.
This bike is called a Penny Farthing, Shane showed us a safe way to get on it.

This is the safety bicycle it was the first bike to have air in its tires.

This bike is called Hobby Horse you sit on it and walk or you can run. It was invented by a German man named Karl Drais in 1817. It is considered as the first bicycle.
This bike is called the MacMillan. In 1839 a Scottish man named Kirkpatrick Macmillan invented it. It is
The first bike to be mechanically propelled . If you find out what another name for the penny farthing is put it in the comments bellow.

History of the bikes show

Today room 12 went and saw a show about the history of bikes. We saw a lot of interesting, weird looking bikes that were created in different country's and different decades. The people that were running the show showed us how the bikes work and how to ride it. We asked them a lot of questions that helped us to get more understanding about bikes. Rm 12 were so surprised on how it looked from when they were first created to what bikes look like today. One of the questions that rm 12 wanted to know was who created the bikes? LEAVE YOU ANSWERS IN THE COMMENTS BELOW.

Being safe online cyber bullying

Today in room 12 constable lorena the police woman visited us talking about being safe online
She talked to us about face book,Instagram, online gaming
If we have a face book account always block your date of birth and your photo and not to text type or chat to any one you don't know .
So if you have a face book account do not friend anyone you don't know and report someone that is not being nice and typing mean stuff so that they can get blocked
What to do if you you tell some one  every thing about you?
You have to tell your parents even if you think you will get in trouble or call the police
You should tell Your
Parents,police, social worker,uncle Aunty ,family
Constable lorena told us that if you want to post a picture of some one else you have to ask them
You have to be 13 and over to have a account
Never tell anyone your account password and user name because they can hack into your account then they'll know where you live when you were born and your real name the reason why this is important is because some one could come to your house in disguise and take you away .

After a while constable lorena had to leave
Here are some examples ๐Ÿ˜€

Adventure with Miny

On Monday Rm 12 got the amazing , yellow Miny and I got to take him to my sweet , cosy house. When we got there it was straight to homework I got a lot of help from the smart genius Miny. After the tough homework me and Miny decided to get some excersise so we went on the springy trampoline and jumped like kangaroo's. After a while me and Miny came off the trampoline and went inside and play Wii I always got angry because Miny kept betting me. Meanwhile I heard a big growl from Miny stomach and I knew he was hungry so I made him a delicious sandwich for him to gobble up. Suddenly Miny felt tired so I tucked him into bed and he went to sleep to get some energy for his next adventure .

My first try

I was standing on the wing side waiting for Henry to pass the ball to me.
The Barbarians were about to tackle Henry but he passed the ball to me and I sprinted really hard.
Someone from the Barbarians tried to tackle me from the right but I bumped him off then another Babarian tried to dive and tackle me but I jumped towards the try line.
‘Yeah!’
And with a high pitched ‘ Tweeeet‘
From the whistle the ref said ‘ Try‘
I was really proud I represented pomaria and scored the winning try of the game

Best Finals ever

In the finals I felt really confident because we won every single game. I was on my position ready to attack and feed the ball. It was hard for me because whenever I attacked, my defender followed. I began to feel uncomfortable. Times up the bell rang, I felt things crawling on my body. Luckily our umpire called out that's what we needed to get 2 more points to win. Our goal shooter got the first goal in and we still needed 1 more. We got the ball again and I got the last goal in extra time. My feelings went over the moon. That was the best moment of playing netball.

My Best Moment For Netball

Yesterday was Winter Sports day I was in Netball (My favourite sport) when we were playing,we made it to the finals because we won all of our 3 group games.
Our opponent was the A team from Henderson South they had giraffe players ( by the way I played GD Goal Defence).
While we were playing my player kept getting one after one intercepts but then when a player passed a ball to my opponent I jumped in front of her and got the intercept.
That was a memory I can't forget even though we lost we cooperated and kept preserving and had a bunch of fun (we lost 7-11)

Goal Keeping

I was on the pitch, as goaly standing on my two wobbley, petrified and nervous feet with two extra non-stop shaking legs, while the soccer ball kept coming closer with the speed of light, but before I
knew it, it would be beneath my very own eyes. So I concentrated as hard as I could but no matter what I did it was no use. The ball was too fast for the human eye, I felt bad for my team that Holy Cross scored but before I knew it I felt better and hoped I'd be lucky next time.

My best moment

When we started our game we were the best shooters and best runners there were. We were winning straight away, it was the best time of my life. I was proud but I was mostly proud of my team performing on this level all day.

The End Of The Game

At 1:20 it was the last game for the hockey tournament. It was easy, peezy, cheesy on ham we got 7 they got 1. The best part was when I got a goal. How you ask, well the ball was next to the goal then bang into the goal and I acted all cool and dizzy as I always do.

First goal ever๐Ÿ˜€

I was on the pitch ready to strike for goal. I was so nervous but I knew If I wouldn't shoot we would be missing out on a very good chance to score. So I kicked the ball as hard as I coul, I crossed my fingers hoping it would go in. As it was spinning to the left I thought it wouldn't go in, then it started to curve back in - GOAL!  It went in, I was so shocked and happy at the same time. That was the most fun I had in Soccer this year.

Room 12's maths competition

Room 12 has joined a nation wide maths competition. We are up against strong competition from both islands and chasing the leaders from Runanga School, North of Greymouth, trailing only by 280 points.
Dear parents please support your children to win this competition for us. The competition continues till Sunday evening and it looks like it will come down to a show down on the weekend. Please make sure your children are responsible with their computer time and take sufficient time away from the screen. It is amazing how motivated they are to solve all these maths problems.
Kind Regards,
Mr. G & learners from Room 12

Golf Mania

The first golf ball hit for room 12 was 2 weeks ago.
It was a nice and sunny day with golf balls coming  to Pomaria Primary School NZ.
Our coache's name is Max and he told us always use the Values when we play golf.
In our first lesson we did a full swing and we had to a set up. I'm going to tell you how to do the set up. It goes:
Left hand, right hand, feet together, left foot, right foot, bend your knees, butt out and swing.
Next we had to learn how to hit the ball without hitting the tee it was very fun but I think our teacher was the best, he looked like a pro but the next time room 12 got to do a full swing it would be about a twenty meters difference but we still had a lot to learn. If you don't believe us then look at these cool pictures some of these pictures are hilarious plase leave a comment .

Room 12 Home work

Dear parents and Caregivers: Home-work will kick off in week 2!

Please take the time to make yourself familiar with the online based activities. I have selected certain activities to help your children to practice learned skills and facts around what we are doing in school. (And don't worry - your children are not encouraged to play computer games by me, on the contrary.)

The activities start on an easy level and increase in difficulty. They are not supposed to be finished all at once, one or two tasks per week are sufficient if repeated ;-)

Home-work will consist of:

  • reading book (e.g. school journal), daily reading of at least 15 minutes
  • home work book with tasks completed with the help of the kiwikidsnews.co.nz website
  • online based practice with Studyladder.co.nz. Here learners can practice their maths facts and reading comprehension skills in an easy way - click on the link below.
  • Room 12 (easy login) login for website.
  • Spelling words will follow later on after I have assessed the current knowledge.
Home-work is important but playing is even more important for healthy children (playing IS learning). I belief half an hour a day of Home-work is more then sufficient to practice the learning at home.

Kind regards,

Mr. Gorlich

Talofa, Hallo and Welcome back to Room 12!

Talofa, Hallo and Welcome back to Room12!

The holidays are over and it is time to go back to school. Another exciting and busy term lays ahead of us and part of this is room 12's up and coming blog - so watch the space. Part of our new learning this term will be regular posts of what happens in room 12 throughout the weeks. We're going to share our learning with the wider community and looking forward hearing back from our readers.

Currently we working on our speeches to be prepared for the upcoming House Captain elections for the year 5 and 6 learners. Also the Life Education Caravan has arrived and we looking forward to some exciting learning with Harold. Later on this month we're going to think about Goals for this year and how we can achieve these. Last year we had a good practice, now we 're going to refine our goal setting.

Our Enduring Understanding  for term 1 is IHO (knowing) in regards to who we are and where we come from. Our learning will be looking into how we learn and where our interests are in order to improve learning.
Linked to this concept are the Values of Respect and Kindness.

Looking forward seeing you all.
